2006 British Open Winner and Scores

The 2006 British Open was 135th time the tournament was played, and the third won by Tiger Woods.

Winner: Tiger Woods, 270

Where it was played: Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake, England

Tournament dates: July 20-23, 2006

Leader after first round: Graeme McDowell, 66

Leader after second round: Tiger Woods, 132

Leader after third round: Tiger Woods, 203

Notable Notes: Tiger Woods stayed away from his driver, and that decision drove him to his third British Open victory. Woods hit driver only once, a decision he made due to the very dry course conditions. Since the ball would roll, he hit irons off nearly every tee, keeping control and avoiding trouble.

Woods led Chris DiMarco by one stroke after both the second and third rounds, and won by two over DiMarco. Woods and DiMarco had battled in a playoff at the 2005 Masters, but here Woods shot 67 in the final round to win in regulation. His 270 total tied the tournament 72-hole record.
