The 2002 Curtis Cup was the 32nd time this tournament was played. Following Team USA's victory, the all-time standings were 23 wins for Team USA, six for GB&I, and three ties.

Notes: Team USA stormed out of the gates at the 2002 Curtis Cup by winning all three of the opening-session foursomes. At the end of Day 1, the U.S. led Team GB&I 7-2. That big first day was important, because GB&I, at one point on Day 2, had a shot at pulling off the huge comeback. In the end, though, it didn't happen.

This year marked the last of Carol Semple Thompson's 12 playing appearances for Team USA, the first of which happened in the 1974 Curtis Cup. Semple Thompson's total number of appearances, her 18 match wins and her 20 points earned are all, far and away, Curtis Cup records.

And it was Semple Thompson who sank the putt that kept the Cup in the Americans' hands. She was 1-up vs. Vikki Laing through 17 holes. On the 18th hole, Semple Thompson sank a 27-foot putt to halve the hole but win the match and, for the USA, ensure that it retained the Cup.
