The PGA Tour's FedEx Cup Champions By Year
The FedEx Cup was created for the 2007 PGA Tour season, and Tiger Woods got it off to a great start as the first FedEx Cup champion.
Over the course of the season, players earn points based on their finishes in PGA Tour tournaments (extra points at the bigger events — see the PGA Tour's explainer for a breakdown of the competition specifics). At the end of the "regular season," the Top 70 players in the point standings advance into the playoffs. There are further cuts after the first playoff tournament and again after the second, until only the Top 30 advance to the FedEx Cup-ending Tour Championship.

In the early years, the Tour Championship often crowned two champions — the tournament's winner, plus the FedEx Cup points champion. It was possible, in other words, to win the FedEx Cup without winning that final tournament. However, in recent years the PGA Tour changed the formula so that after the two previous playoff tournaments whittle the players down to just 30, the winner of the Tour Championship is always also crowned the FedEx Cup winner.
Multiple FedEx Cup Winners
So far, only two golfers have finished as the FedEx Cup champ more than once:- 3 times — Rory McIlroy, 2016, 2019, 2022
- 2 times — Tiger Woods, 2007, 2009
