Youngest, Oldest Winners of LPGA Chevron Championship

The Chevron Championship is one of the five golf tournaments that make up the LPGA majors. Which golfers hold the records as the tournament's youngest winner, and its oldest? The youngest wasn't yet 19 years old, and the oldest was in her early 40s.

The Chevron Championship is played in Houston, Texas, each year. It is a continuation of the tournament that was originally named the Colgate-Dinah Shore Winner's Circle. Other names it has carried over its lifespan, which dates to 1972, include Nabisco Dinah Shore, Kraft Nabisco Championship, and ANA Inspiration.

Youngest Chevron Championship Winners

So far, three teenagers have won this major championship, with Morgan Pressel being the youngest:
  • Morgan Pressel, 2007: 18 years, 10 months, 9 days old
  • Lydia Ko, 2016: 18 years, 11 months, 10 days old
  • Lexi Thompson, 2014: 19 years, 1 month, 27 days old
At the time Pressel won in 2007 (when it was named the Kraft Nabisco Championship), she was not only this major's youngest winner, but the youngest winner of any LPGA major. And she was just the third golfer in LPGA Tour history (after Marlene Hagge and Paula Creamer) to win any tournament before turning 19 — although many have since joined that club (see Youngest Winners Ever on the LPGA Tour).

Pressel started the final round of that 2007 Chevron Championship tied for ninth place, four strokes off the lead. But in a tough-scoring final round, Pressel's 69 was good enough to give her a one-stroke victory over Brittany Lincicome, Catriona Matthew and Suzann Pettersen.

Oldest Chevron Championship Winners

It is surprising (to us, anyway) that, so far, only one golfer older than 40 has won this major. That golfer is Betsy King:
  • Betsy King, 1997: 41 years, 7 months, 17 days old
  • Patty Sheehan, 1996: 39 years, 5 months, 4 days old
  • Amy Alcott, 1991: 35 years, 1 month, 9 days old
Probably even more surprising than this major having only one champion over the age of 40 is it having just three older than 35 years and one month. And those three are each Hall of Famers.

When King set the record by winning at age 41 in 1997, the tournament's name was Nabisco Dinah Shore. It was King's third victory in this major, and her sixth (and final) win in any LPGA major. She carded back-to-back 67s in the second and third round, and closed with a 71 to win by two strokes over Kris Tschetter and Amy Fruhwirth.
