Consecutive Multi-Win Seasons on the LPGA Tour

Winning on any pro golf tour is an achievement. Winning multiple times in the same year is huge. And even bigger? Winning two or more tournaments multiple years in a row. That's what we are looking at here: LPGA Tour golfers with the longest streaks of consecutive, multi-win seasons.

The LPGA's all-time wins leader, Kathy Whitworth, recorded victories in 22 different seasons, the LPGA record for most years with a win. She won at least once in 17 consecutive years (another record). And she does appear on the list below of the longest streaks with at least two wins per year. But she's not the record-holder.

Patty Berg holds the record with 13 consecutive LPGA Tour seasons with at least two wins. Berg's streak began in 1946, before the LPGA even existed. (Today's LPGA Tour recognizes some pre-1950 tournaments as official LPGA wins, which is why that is possible.) Berg won at least twice a year every year until 1958, recording 50 victories overall during that record-setting streak.

These are all the golfers who've had streaks of at least five years with multiple wins on the LPGA Tour, with total number of years in the streak, the LPGA Tour seasons the streak covered, and the number of wins recorded during the streak:

  YearsSpanWins
Patty Berg 13 1946-58 50
Mickey Wright 12 1957-68 79
Annika Sorenstam 12 1995-2006 69
Louise Suggs 10 1952-1961 48
JoAnne Carner 10 1974-83 36
Kathy Whitworth 9 1965-73 60
Babe Zaharias 9 1947-1955 38
Betsy King 9 1984-92 28
Nancy Lopez 8 1978-85 34
Sandra Haynie 7 1969-75 25
Karrie Webb 7 1996-2002 27
Betsy Rawls 6 1956-61 26
Carol Mann 5 1965-69 27
Patty Sheehan 5 1982-86 16
Sandra Palmer 5 1973-77 13

Second-place Mickey Wright won tournaments in three other years, one previous to the start of her streak and two after, but just one victory per each of those three years. So 79 of her 82 career wins happened during her streak. She also had a streak within the streak: She won 10 or more tournaments in four consecutive years — 1961, 1962, 1963 and 1964. No other golfer, LPGA or PGA Tour, has done that.

Sorenstam's 12-year streak of multi-win seasons spanned nearly her entire career, from her rookie year of 1995 through 2006, just two years before she retired. Like Wright, Sorenstam won just three LPGA tournaments outside of her streak years, winning 69 of her 72 career LPGA Tour victories inside the streak.

Note that so far the only streaks that make the list above and include years in the 21st century are those of Sorenstam (ended in 2007) and Karrie Webb (ended in 2003).
