Most Consecutive Cuts Made on the European Tour

What is the longest streak of tournaments on the European Tour (DP World Tour) that any golfer has gone without missing a cut? That record is 82 tournaments in a row without a missed cut, and Ernie Els is the golfer who holds it.

Els tied the previous record of 69 consecutive cuts made at the 2006 Qatar Masters, where he finished 13th. He broke the record the following week in the Dubai Desert Classic, where he finished second after a memorable down-the-stretch duel and playoff with Tiger Woods. That made him the first European Tour golfer to make at least 70 cuts in a row. And then his streak lasted another year and two months more before ending at 82 consecutive cuts made.

Following are the longest consecutive cuts streaks in the history of the European Tour, which dates to 1972. (Compare to the records for most consecutive cuts on the PGA Tour and most consecutive cuts on the LPGA Tour.)

The List: Consecutive European Tour Tournaments Making the Cut

These are the longest-known streaks of consecutive tournaments without missing a cut on the European Tour:
  • 82 — Ernie Els, 2000-2007, started at 2000 Johnnie Walker Classic, ended at 2007 Masters
  • 69 — Bernhard Langer, 1991-1996, started at 1991 Volvo PGA Championship, ended at 1996 Volvo PGA Championship
  • 56 — Neil Coles, 1973-1979, started at 1973 Viyella PGA Championship, ended at 1979 British Open
  • 54 — Bernhard Langer, 1983-1988, started at 1983 Sun Alliance PGA Championship, ended at 1988 Dunhill British Masters
  • 53 — Ronan Rafferty, 1988-1991, started at 1988 British Open, ended at 1991 Peugeot Spanish Open
  • 50 — Seve Ballesteros, 1983-1988, started at 1983 Scandinavian Enterprise Open, ended at 1988 Cannes Open
With apologies to the record-holder, perhaps the most remarkable thing about the above list is not Els' streak of 82 consecutive cuts made, but the fact that of the six streaks in European Tour history of 50 or more cuts in a row, two of them are by Langer.

Langer's 54-cuts-made streak of 1983-88 ended just two cuts shy of tying what was then the European Tour record, Coles' streak of 56 consecutive cuts in the 1970s. But starting three years later, Langer did put together a consecutive-cuts streak that broke Coles' record, ending in 1996 at 69 cuts in a row.

It was 11 years before Els surpassed Langer's mark and claimed the record for himself.
