Most Consecutive Cuts Made on the PGA Tour

What are the longest consecutive-cuts-made streaks in PGA Tour history? The list below shows the golfers who've gone 50 or more tournaments in a row without missing a cut. Only a handful of golfers make the list.

For decades on the PGA Tour, Byron Nelson's streak of 113 tournaments without missing a cut was one of golf's most-famous records. But it's not the record anymore: Tiger Woods now holds the record with 142 consecutive tournaments playing the weekend. Coincidentally, when Woods' streak finally ended — it was active from 1998 into 2005 — it ended at Nelson's tournament, the one that for many years was named the Byron Nelson Classic.

The List: Consecutive PGA Tour Tournaments Making the Cut

• 142 — Tiger Woods, 1998-2005. Streak started at 1998 Farmers Insurance Open and ended at the 2005 CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
• 113 — Byron Nelson, 1941-49. Streak started at 1941 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and ended at 1949 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
• 105 — Jack Nicklaus, 1970-76. Streak started at 1970 Sahara Invitational and ended at 1976 World Open.
• 86 — Hale Irwin, 1975-79. Streat started at 1975 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and ended at 1979 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
• 78 — Scottie Scheffler, 2022-26. Streak started at 2022 BMW Championship and ended at 2026 Scottish Open.
• 72 — Xander Schauffele, 2022-26. Streak started at 2022 Masters Tournament and ended at 2026 Farmers Insurance Open.
• 72 — Dow Finsterwald, 1955-58. Streak started at 1955 Carling Golf Classic and ended at 1958 Baton Rouge Open Invitational.
• 53 — Tom Kite, 1980-82. Streak started at 1980 Western Open and ended at 1982 RBC Canadian Open.

Note that while most media and fans refer to this record as being about making the cut, it's more accurate to say it's about not missing cuts. Because all of the golfers listed above had tournaments in their streaks that were no-cut events. Woods, for example, played in no-cut World Golf Championship (WGC) tournaments, where missing the cut wasn't possible because there was no cut. Nelson and all the others also played no-cut tournaments during their streaks (and some of the streaks included team tournaments, too).

More About Woods' and Nelson's Streaks

Woods won 36 tournaments during his cut streak, including eight major championships. Woods tied Nelson's 113-in-a-row record at the 2003 Funai Classic at Disney, then set a new record with his 114th consecutive cut at the 2003 Tour Championship. (Yes, the Tour Championship is one of those no-cut tournaments, but so long as the golfer earned a paycheck in a no-cut tournament, the PGA Tour counts it as a made cut.)

Nelson won 38 tournaments during his cut streak, including two major championships. Nelson didn't just collect a paycheck in every one of those 113 tournaments in his streak — he finished in the Top 20 in every one of them.

Nelson's streak ended when he withdrew following the second round of the 1949 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which is a withdrawal, not a missed cut, except that the PGA Tour says that Nelson failing to play the weekend at the tournament ended his consecutive cuts streak. It's a bit confusing. (A 1959 news article about PGA Tour records refers to this record as "consecutive tournaments in the money," rather than consecutive cuts made.) Regardless, Nelson, who was mostly retired by 1949, missed the cut in the 1949 U.S. Open a couple starts later.

Woods' streak included 31 no-cut tournaments, and if you decided you wanted to exclude those, his streak of cuts made in tournaments that included cuts would be 111. And if you then also subtracted the no-cut tournaments from Nelson's streak, Woods would still beat Nelson to hold this record.

The only other golfer to reach 100 tournaments in a row without missing a cut is Nicklaus. When his streak ended at 105 — just eight shy of Nelson's record — in 1976, Nicklaus was asked if he remembered what happened the last time he missed a cut. "Yes," Nicklaus replied, "I played pretty good for the next 105 tournaments."
