Golfers With Most Fourball Wins in Solheim Cup

In the history of the Solheim Cup, which golfers have proved the best at winning fourball matches? That's what the list below shows — the competition's all-time leaders in fourball matches won. And at No. 1 is Cristie Kerr with 11 fourball victories.

The Solheim Cup is an every-other-year competition between Team USA and Team Europe, each comprised of 12 pro tour golfers. Fourball is one of the three formats (along with foursomes and singles) played during the three-day tournament. Fourball can also be referred to as better-ball: A side of two teammates, each playing her own ball into the hole, with the lower of the two scores counting as the team's score.

Under the Solheim Cup format, a golfer can play a maximum of two fourball matches in any given year. So the best any golfer can do in a single Solheim Cup is 2-0, two wins, no losses. Kerr went 2-0 in fourballs twice, in the 2003 and 2005 tournaments. In 2015 she had a win and a tie (no losses), and in her final appearance in 2017 Kerr had a victory in the one fourball match she played.

The List: Most Fourball Matches Won in Solheim Cup

  • Cristie Kerr, Team USA, 11 match wins: Played in nine Cups from 2002-17, 17 total fourball matches. Overall record in fourballs of 11 wins, 5 losses, 1 tie.
  • Laura Davies, Europe, 9 wins: Played in 12 Cups from 1990-2011, 19 total fourball matches. Overall fourball record of 9-7-3.
  • Suzann Pettersen, Europe, 9 wins: Played in nine Cups from 2002-19, 13 total fourball matches. Overall fourball record of 9-3-1.
  • Annika Sorenstam, Europe, 7 wins: Played in eight Cups from 1994-2007, 14 total fourball matches. Overall fourball record of 7-5-2.
  • Carlota Ciganda, Europe, 6 wins: Played in seven Cups from 2013-24, 13 total fourball matches. Overall record in fourballs of 6-5-2.
  • Anna Nordqvist, Europe, 6 wins: Played in nine Cups from 2009-24, 10 total fourball matches. Overall fourball record of 6-4-0.
Kerr is the only American on the list. The next-most fourball wins by any American Solheim Cupper is five, by five golfers: Paula Creamer, Rosie Jones, Betsy King, Brittany Lincicome and Meg Mallon.

Kerr also holds the Solheim Cup records for most fourball points won (11.5), while Davis holds the record for most fourball matches played (19). Kerr played in the competition nine times, first in the 2002 Solheim Cup, last in the 2017 Solheim Cup. Davies played in it a record 12 times, first in the inaugural 1990 Solheim Cup, last in the 2011 Solheim Cup.

Of course, in the doubles formats (fourballs, foursomes), one golfer isn't winning matches alone. They have partners. And over her long Solheim Cup career, Kerr played with many different fourball partners: Rosie Jones, Kelli Kuehne, Natalie Gulbis, Paula Creamer, Nicole Castrale, Morgan Pressel, Michelle Wie and Lexi Thompson.
