What Happened in the 2021 U.S. Senior Open
Jim Furyk overcame a rocky start in the final round to win the 2021 U.S. Senior Open. Furyk, winner of the 2003 U.S. Open, was the eighth golfer to win both the U.S. Open and U.S. Senior Open.Furyk was in his first year playing the Champions Tour, and, after winning his first two starts as a senior tour golfer, this was his third victory.
He was seven strokes off the lead following the first round. But in the second round, on a day when only seven golfers broke par, Furyk fired a 64. That moved him two strokes in front.
He stretched his lead to four strokes after the third round. But his final round didn't get off to a good start: Furyk scored double-bogeys on both the second and third holes.
But he steadied himself after that and played under-par the rest of the round. Furyk finished the final round with a 71 and a total score of 273, good for a three-stroke victory.
