1954 Curtis Cup Winner and Match Scores

The 1954 Curtis Cup was the eighth time this competition was played. Following the result, the all-time standings to this point were six wins for Team USA, one for Team GB&I, with one tie.

Final Score: United States 6, Great Britain & Ireland 3

Dates Played: September 2-3, 1954

Location: Merion Golf Club (East Course) in Ardmore, Pennsylvania

Team Captains: Dorothy Beck for Great Britain & Ireland, Edith Flippin for USA

Team Rosters:

Notes: Team USA won all three foursomes matches en route to its victory. All three of those wins were by wide margins in the 36-hole matches: one by 6-and-4, two others by 6-and-5 scores.

There was an even bigger win in singles: The USA's Polly Riley defeated Elizabeth Price by a 9-and-8 score. That was the biggest win (and worst defeat) in Curtis Cup history to that point.

Dorothy Beck made history when she captained Team GB&I: Her husband, John B. Beck, had already been a two-time Walker Cup captain. They are the only wife-and-husband duo who have captained in the Curtis and Walker cups.
