The 2022 British Open was the 150th time this oldest major championship was played. The winner earned his victory by scoring 64 in the final round.

Winner: Cameron Smith, 268

Notable notes: Cameron Smith began the back nine of his final round with five consecutive birdies. And then he ended his final round with another one, claiming a one-stroke victory and the 2022 Open Championship title.

Smith began the final round four strokes behind third-round leader Rory McIlroy. McIlroy didn't play poorly, he just couldn't sink any birdie putts from the 11th hole one, just missing several. In the end, McIlroy carded a 70 to Smith's 64 and finish in third place, two behind.

The runner-up with Smith's playing partner and fellow Cameron, Cameron Young. Young closed with a 65 that included an eagle on the 18th hole to leapfrog McIlroy into second place.
