U.S. Open Golf Courses: Where They've Played

Pebble Beach is a frequent US Open golf course

The U.S. Open is one of the four major championships in men's professional golf. Hosting a U.S. Open is a big deal — a feather in the cap — for any golf course chosen to do so.

The U.S. Open moves to a different golf course each year. There is no official "rota" of U.S. Open courses, but, as you'll see on the list below, the United States Golf Association definitely has favorites to which it regularly returns.

Which courses are those favorites? We'll start here:

Most Times as U.S. Open Host Site

  • 9 times — Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, has been the site of nine U.S. Opens: 1927, 1935, 1953, 1962, 1973, 1983, 1994, 2007, 2016
  • 7 times — Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey, has hosted seven times: 1903, 1915, 1936, 1954, 1967, 1980, 1993
Those are the two leaders. Three other courses so far have been the U.S. Open site six times: Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; Pebble Beach (Calif.) Golf Links; and Winged Foot Golf Club (West Course) in Mamaroneck, N.Y.
