Lowest 72-Hole Scores in the Regions Tradition

The Tradition (currently known as the Regions Tradition for sponsorship reasons) is a golf tournament on the Champions Tour, and one of the major championships of men's senior professional golf. What is the lowest winning score in this major's history, and which golfers have gone the lowest?

The Tradition dates to 1989, when the tournament was launched as part of what was then called the Senior PGA Tour. In the time since, only a handful of golfers have completed the event in fewer than 270 strokes.

Two golfers share the tournament record for lowest 72-hole stroke total: Doug Tewell and Steve Stricker. And that record is 265.

The List: Best 72-Hole Scores in The Tradition

  • 265 — Doug Tewell, 2001, won. Scored 66-67-70-62 to finish 23-under-par.
  • 265 — Steve Stricker, 2023, won. Scored 68-68-65-67 to finish 23-under.
  • 266 — Gil Morgan, 1997, won. Scored 66-66-67-67 to finish 22-under.
  • 267 — Steve Stricker, 2022, won. Scored 65-68-66-68 to finish 21-under.
  • 268 — Bernhard Langer, 2017, won. Scored 69-69-66-64 to finish 20-under.
  • 268 — Angel Cabrera, 2025, won. Scored 70-67-67-64 to finish 20-under.
  • 269 — Tom Shaw, 1993, won. Scored 70-65-67-67 to finish 19-under.
  • 269 — Fred Funk, 2008, won. Scored 69-66-65-69 to finish 19-under.
  • 269 — Miguel Angel Jimenez, 2018, won. Scored 64-69-66-70 to finish 19-under.
  • 269 — Jerry Kelly, 2025, second place. Scored 65-71-65-69 to finish 19-under.
Tewell won by nine strokes over runner-up Mike McCullough, which is also The Tradition's record for margin of victory. And the 62 Tewell scored in the final round established the tournament's 18-hole scoring record at the time.

When Stricker tied Tewell's record in 2023, it was his third victory in this major. And in all three of them, Stricker had a winning margin of six strokes.

Note that Kelly is the only golfer on the list above who did not win The Tradition in the year he scored lower than 270. Kelly was second in 2025 to Cabrera.

The Tradition is a major that has moved locations multiple times in its history. So the scores above are spread over multiple golf courses. Shaw in 1993, Morgan in 1997 and Tewell in 2001 recorded their victories at Cochise Golf Course of the Golf Club at Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, Arizona. Funk in 2008 did his scoring at Crosswater Club in Sunriver, Oregon. The rest of the golfers on the list — Langer, Jimenez, Stricker, Cabrera and Kelly — were playing Founders Course at Greystone Golf and Country Club in Hoover, Alabama.
