2029 PGA Championship Golf Course: Baltusrol

Baltusrol Golf Club is one of the storied clubs in America, founded in 1895. Its two courses, the Upper and Lower, were both designed by A.W. Tillinghast. While the Upper Course has been the site of big tournaments, the Lower Course is considered the "championship course" and is the one on which the 2029 PGA Championship will be played.

Baltusrol is one the golf courses most-visited by USGA and PGA championships. It has been the site of seven U.S. Opens, and the 2029 PGA Championship will be its third. Two of Jack Nicklaus' majors were won at Baltusrol. Following are all of those majors, their victors, and, in the case of stroke-play tournaments, the winning scores.

Previous PGA Championships at Baltusrol

The PGA Championship has twice previously been played on Baltusrol's Lower Course:
  • 2005: Phil Mickelson, 276
  • 2016: Jimmy Walker, 266

Other Professional Majors on the Lower Course

Amateur Majors on the Lower Course

  • 1926 U.S. Amateur: George Von Elm
  • 1946 U.S. Amateur: Ted Bishop
  • 2000 U.S. Amateur: Jeff Quinney
(Note: Qualifying and early round matches in these three U.S. Amateurs were split between the Lower and Upper courses.)

And Even More Major Tournaments at Baltusrol

Five amateur and pro majors were played on the club's Old Course, which no longer exists, in the early years of the 20th century: 1901 U.S. Women's Amateur (Genevieve Hecker), 1903 U.S. Open (Willie Anderson), 1904 U.S. Amateur (Chandler Egan), 1911 U.S. Women's Amateur (Margaret Curtis), 1915 U.S. Open (Jerome Travers).

The club's Upper Course (also designed by A.W. Tillinghast) has hosted some big events, too: 1936 U.S. Open (Tony Manero), 1985 U.S. Women's Open (Kathy Baker).

And there's also the 2018 U.S. Junior Amateur, split between the Upper and Lower Courses and won by Michael Thorbjornsen.
