The British Women's Amateur Championship is one of two "amateur majors" of women's golf, along with the U.S. Women's Amateur. It is played annually and is a match play tournament. All matches today are 18 holes, although at times in the past the championship match was 36 holes.

The tournament was founded in 1893 and for most of its history was run by the Ladies Golf Union. But the LGU merged into the R&A in 2017, and since then the tournament is run by the R&A.

Its official name, since it became an R&A championship, is The Women's Amateur Championship, and for much of its history it was known as the British Ladies Amateur Championship. Before we get to the list of winners, let's look at those who've won the British Women's Am most often.
