Jason Day was ranked No. 1 at the end of 2016 after winning three times on the PGA Tour. His victories were in the Arnold Palmer Invitational, WGC Dell Match Play and The Players Championship.

Comparing the above end-of-2016 rankings with the end-of-2015 rankings, the biggest jump from outside the Top 50 into the Top 50 from 2015 to 2016 was by Alex Noren, who moved up from No. 96 to No. 9; and Tyrrell Hatton, who jumped from No. 104 to 24th.
