2025 British Open Dates, Golf Course, Players

The 2025 British Open will be the 153rd time the tournament is played. The Open Championship, one of the four professional major championships in men's golf, dates to 1860 and is the oldest golf tournament existing.

2025 British Open dates: July 17-20, 2025
Golf course: Royal Portrush in Portrush, County Antrim, Northern Ireland
Defending champion: Xander Schauffele won the 2024 Open by two strokes over runners-up Justin Rose and Billy Horschel. Schauffele scored 65 in the final round, posting 9-under 275 as the winning score.

The Open Championship is the fourth of the four majors on the calendar each year, following The Masters (April), PGA Championship (May) and U.S. Open (June). The Open is run by the R&A. That organization announces the player groupings and tee times roughly a week prior to the tournament's start.

2025 British Open Links: Royal Portrush

The Dunluce Links, one of the two courses at Royal Portrush, is the site of the 2025 Open. Dunluce is the only links outside of Great Britain to host an Open, something it first did in 1951. The Open did not return to Northern Ireland until 2019, but Portrush was so popular with players and fans that the R&A slotted the club in again just six years later.

The winners of the previous Opens played on the Dunluce links at Royal Portrush:

  • 1951: Max Faulkner, 285
  • 2019: Shane Lowry, 269
In recent years, the Dunluce course was also the site of the 2012 Irish Open, won by Jamie Donaldson. That was the first Irish Open played in Northern Ireland since 1953.
