Most Wins in WGC Tournaments (And All of Tiger's WGC Wins)

The golfer who holds the record for most wins in WGC tournaments is, no surprise, Tiger Woods. But you might be at least a little surprised at just how far out ahead of all other golfers he is.

The World Golf Championships (WGC) were a series of tournaments, most commonly three or four per year, established in 1999 and intended to bring the best golfers from all of the world's top tours together. The U.S. PGA Tour was the driving force behind the creation of the WGC tournaments, which came to be viewed as among the most-important and prestigious tournaments on the PGA Tour schedule outside of the four major championships.

At least three World Golf Championships tournaments were played every year from 1999 through 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic caused some cancellations after that, and just one WGC event was played in both 2022 and 2023. The WGC series was discontinued after that.

Golfers With Most World Golf Championships Wins

Tiger Woods tops the WGC wins list, and no other golfer came anywhere near to Woods' total. Woods' 18 wins is three times the number of the golfer in second place, and six times the number of the golfers tied for third place.
  • Tiger Woods — 18 wins
  • Dustin Johnson — 6 wins
  • Rory McIlroy — 3 wins
  • Phil Mickelson — 3 wins
  • Geoff Ogilvy — 3 wins
Golfers who won two WGC tournaments: Darren Clark, Jason Day, Ernie Els, Hunter Mahan, Hideki Matsuyama, Ian Poulter, Patrick Reed, Justin Rose, Adam Scott, Justin Thomas, Bubba Watson.

List of Tiger Woods' WGC Wins

Woods won 23-percent of all the individiual World Golf Championships tournaments played. (His 18 wins does not include partnering with David Duval as Team USA to win the team-format 2000 World Cup.) Given that Woods' total so completely dwarfs the number of wins by anyone else, let's list all of Woods' WGC victories:
  • 1999 WGC NEC Invitational: Won by one stroke over runner-up Phil Mickelson
  • 1999 WGC American Express Championship: Defeated Miguel Angel Jimenez in playoff
  • 2000 WGC NEC Invitational: Won by 11 over Justin Leonard and Phillip Price
  • 2001 WGC NEC Invitational: Defeated Jim Furyk in playoff
  • 2002 WGC American Express Championship: Won by one over Retief Goosen

  • 2013 WGC Bridgestone Invitational: Won by seven over Keegan Bradley and Henrik Stenson
Note that while the specific tournament names changed through they years due to changes in title sponsors, there are only three golf tournaments represented in the above list: the Match Play, the Championship, and the Invitational. Woods won the Match Play three times, the Championship seven times, and the Invitational eight times.
