2029 U.S. Open: Tournament Dates, Golf Course

The 2029 U.S. Open golf championship will be the 129th time the tournament is played. The U.S. Open is the second-oldest tournament among the four "major championships" of men's professional golf, dating to 1895. Run by the USGA, it is played annually in June and rotates to golf courses around the United States

2029 U.S. Open dates: June 14-17 (Thursday-Sunday)
Golf course: Pinehurst Resort & Country Club (No. 2 Course) in Village of Pinehurst, North Carolina

Tickets for the 2029 U.S. Open will likely go on sale around the time of, or shorly after, the playing of the 2028 tournament. When ticket information becomes available, it will be posted on usga.org (look for the "Tickets" section of that website).

Golfers get into the field through various qualifying criteria known as exemption categories. What the "exemption categories" exempt a golfer from is having to play his way in through 36-hole qualifying events. The USGA stages those qualifiers around the world in April-May.

The player groupings and tee times for the 2029 U.S. Open will be determined by the USGA. The USGA typically announces those pairings during the week of the tournament, usually on the Tuesday preceding the tournament's Thursday start.

Pinehurst Resort dates to 1895 and today includes a whopping 10 18-hole golf courses, all known simply by number. The No. 2 course has always been considered the jewel, and is the resort's "championship course." The No. 2 course opened in 1907, with the original design by Donald Ross. Robert Trent Jones led a 1974 redesign, and the team of Bill Coore/Ben Crenshaw completed a restoration of Ross' original vision in 2010.

During the most recent U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2, in 2024, the course was set up as a par-70 layout. The course played 7,548 yards.

The 2029 U.S. Open will be the fifth time this major is played on the No. 2 Course. The previous four, with winners:

Pinehurst No. 2 has also been the site of other majors, both pro and amateur, both men's and women's: In addition, the 1951 Ryder Cup, won by Team USA, was staged at Pinehurst, as were the men's and women's World Amateur Team Championships in 1980.

In 2014, Pinehurst No. 2 hosted the men's and women's U.S. Opens in back-to-back weeks, and will do so again in 2029. The 2035 U.S. Open is also already scheduled for Pinehurst No. 2.
