Most Wins in U.S. Senior Open

Who holds the record for the most wins in the U.S. Senior Open? That golfer is Miller Barber, who won the tournament three times in its first decade of existence.

The U.S. Senior Open, run by the United States Golf Association (USGA), is the biggest tournament in men's professional 50-and-over golf. It is one of the five major championships in men's senior golf. This major was first played in 1980.

And since that first U.S. Senior Open in 1980, only Barber has won it at least three times.

• 2 wins — Gary Player (1987, 1988)
• 2 wins — Jack Nicklaus (1991, 1993)
• 2 wins — Hale Irwin (1998, 2000)
• 2 wins — Allen Doyle (2005, 2006)
• 2 wins — Kenny Perry (2013, 2017)
• 2 wins — Bernhard Langer (2010, 2023)
• 2 wins — Padraig Harrington (2022, 2025)

Barber's first win in 1982 was by four strokes over runners-up Gene Littler and Dan Sikes Jr. When he won again in 1984, Barber beat second-place Arnold Palmer by two strokes. And in his third U.S. Senior Open victory, Barber won by four shots again. The runner-up that year was Robert De Vicenzo, who had won the inaugural tournament in 1980.

Note that Barber's second and third victories were in back-to-back years. Only Gary Player and Allen Doyle, listed among the 2-time champs above, have since won the U.S. Senior Open in consecutive years.

Also of interest: The 13-year gap between Bernhard Langer's two U.S. Senior Open victories. That is by far the longest gap between wins in this major (no other golfer has gone more than four years between two wins).
