Consecutive Years With 5 or More Wins on PGA Tour

The PGA Tour traces its origins to 1916. In that long history, what is the longest streak any golfer has had of consecutive years winning five or more tour events? One golfer holds the record with five years in a row of 5+ PGA Tour victories.

That golfer is Tiger Woods, who won five or more times on the PGA Tour each year from 1999 through 2003.

Only 10 golfers in PGA Tour history have posted back-to-back (or more) seasons of 5+ wins. Many of the game's greats never won five times in one PGA Tour season, let alone in consecutive years. But Woods is one of three golfers who appear on the following list with more than one such streak.

• 4 years in a row — Ben Hogan, 1945 (5), 1946 (13), 1947 (7), 1948 (10)

• 4 years in a row — Tom Watson, 1977 (5), 1978 (5), 1979 (5), 1980 (7)
• 3 years in a row — Byron Nelson, 1944 (8), 1945 (18), 1946 (6)
• 3 years in a row — Jack Nicklaus, 1971 (5), 1972 (7), 1973 (7)
• 3 years in a row — Tiger Woods, 2005 (6), 2006 (8), 2007 (7)
• 2 years in a row — Walter Hagen, 1923 (5), 1924 (5)

Snead is the only who appears with three different streaks, and in each case Snead's streak of 5+ PGA Tour victories was two years.

Woods and Hogan are the other two golfers who had multiple multi-season streaks of 5+ wins. Surprisingly, Nicklaus appears just once, with a three-season streak of 5+ wins.

Note that Woods in 2000 became the first golfer to join this club since Watson's four-year run ended in 1980. And Scheffler became the first to join this club since Woods' second streak ended in 2007. As noted at the beginning, winning five tournaments in a single PGA Tour season is quite uncommon in the tour's history. So it's not a surprise that the list of golfers who did it in two or more years consecutively consists of nothing but all-time greats and Hall of Famers.
