The 2018 U.S. Senior Open was the 39th time this major championship of senior (50-and-over) men's golf was played. A couple of key late putts helped David Toms to the victory.

What Happened in the 2018 U.S. Senior Open
David Toms made key putts down the stretch, one for birdie and another for par, to capture a one-stroke victory in the 2018 U.S. Senior Open.Jerry Kelly held the solo lead after each of the first three rounds, and he was still in the lead as he and Toms, paired together, made the turn in the final round. But Kelly bogeyed the 11th and 12 holes, giving Toms his first lead of the tournament.
Toms (who was six behind Kelly following the second round) let that lead slip with his own bogey on No. 13. That created a five-way tie for the lead.
But Toms made another move on the par-3 16th, rolling in a 16-foot birdie putt to go back in front by one. A poor drive on the 17th, however, threatened to cost him another stroke. Instead, Toms played short of the par-4 green, put his third shot onto the green, and sank a diffucult, 19-foot, downhill par-saver to hold on. Another par on the 18th gave Toms the championship.
Kelly finished one behind, in a three-way tie for second place with Tim Petrovic and Miguel Angel Jimenez. It was the first of two years in a row that Kelly finished runner-up.
Hale Irwin made his 23rd and final start in the U.S. Senior Open, ending his tournament career in his home state. Irwin, who missed the cut, first played this tournament in 1995, and he won the 1998 U.S. Senior Open and 2000 U.S. Senior Open.
