USGA Men's State Team Championship Winners, Records, Courses
The USGA Men's State Team Championship was played every other year (in its later years alternating with the women's tournament) through 2016. Then, in 2017, the USGA decided it was time to move on. The organization discontinued this tournament when it created at a couple new events.
Who could play in the USGA Men's State Team Championship? Amateur men who were not college golfers.
How were teams selected? State associations could select any three golfers they wished, using whatever criteria they wanted. In most years the tournament was played, 52 teams took part — one for each state, plus teams representing the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
What was the competition format? The tournament featured three days of play. All three golfers on a team played stroke play, 18 holes each day. The two low scores among the three teammates were combined for the team's score each day (the team's high score each round was thrown out).

2009 — Pennsylvania, 417. Team members: Sean Knapp, Nathan Smith, Mike Van Sickle

The biggest name among any of the winning golfers was Brandt Snedeker, who played for 2003 champion Tennessee. Snedeker went on to post double-digit wins on the PGA Tour. And Tennessee set the tournament scoring record in 2003 with a 413 total.
Of the 12 USGA Men's State Team Championships played, four of them were won by Team Texas (1999, 2005, 2007, 2014). The 2005 and 2007 titles were back-to-back, with Terrence Miskell playing on both.
The invidivual scoring record of 64 was shared by Steve Sheehan (Nevada, 1997), Jon Troutman (Kansas, 2009) and Ricky Jones (Maine, 2003). The individual 54-hole scoring record was 205, set by Adam Walicki of Team Michigan in 2003.
