Golfers With Most Losses in Solheim Cup Matches

It's might seem paradoxical that the golfer who holds the record for losing the most Solheim Cup matches also shares the record for winning the most matches. It's not, really: That golfer also played in the most Solheim Cups, so she played a lot of matches over her career. Others on the list below really did have terrible Solheim Cup records, though.

That record-holder — for both the most losses and the most Solheim Cup wins — is Laura Davies, whose 18 match defeats "tops" the list below. Davies is one of multiple golfers on the list, though, who had winning records despite also being among the golfers who lost the most matches.

The List: Most Solheim Cup Match Losses

  • Laura Davies, Europe, 18 losses: 22-18-6 (wins-losses-ties) overall record, 9-7-3 in fourball, 8-6-1 in foursomes, 5-5-2 in singles
  • Anna Nordqvist, Europe, 15 losses: 17-15-3 overall record, 6-4-0 in fourball, 8-8-0 in foursomes, 3-3-3 in singles
  • Helen Alfredsson, Europe, 15 losses: 11-15-2 overall record, 4-3-2 in fourball, 3-8-0 in foursomes, 4-4-0 in singles
  • Cristie Kerr, USA, 14 losses: 18-14-6 overall record, 11-5-1 in fourball, 4-5-3 in foursomes, 3-4-2 in singles
  • Trish Johnson, Europe, 13 losses: 5-13-7 overall record, 2-2-5 in fourball, 2-4-2 in foursomes, 1-7-0 in singles
  • Angela Stanford, USA, 13 losses: 4-13-3 overall record, 0-5-2 in fourball, 1-5-1 in foursomes, 3-3-0 in singles
  • Suzann Pettersen, Europe, 12 losses: 18-12-6 overall record, 9-3-1 in fourball, 7-5-2 in foursomes, 2-4-3 in singles
  • Juli Inkster, USA, 12 losses: 15-12-7 overall record, 3-5-2 in fourball, 6-6-3 in foursomes, 6-1-2 in singles
  • Sophie Gustafson, Europe, 12 losses: 13-12-6 overall record, 3-7-1 in fourball, 7-1-4 in foursomes, 3-4-1 in singles
  • Brittany Lincicome, USA, 12 losses: 7-12-2 overall record, 5-4-1 in fourball, 1-3-1 in foursomes, 1-5-0 in singles
  • Ally Ewing, USA, 12 losses: 3-12-1 overall record, 2-4-0 in fourball, 1-4-1 in foursomes, 0-4-0 in singles
Davies, Pettersen, Kerr and Nordqvist all also appear on the list of golfers with the most wins. And in addition to those four, Inkster and Gustafson also had overall winning records despite making the list of golfers with the most Solheim Cup losses. In all those cases, their making this list is just a function of volume — of playing in so many Solheim Cups over their careers.

But the four remaining golfers who make the list above had truly poor Solheim Cup records. Ewing appeared in four Solheim Cups and had a losing record each time, culminating in an 0-4-0 mark in the 2024 Solheim Cup. Lincicome made Team USA six times and mostly did OK, but also had two Cups in which she went 0-2-1 and 0-4-0.

Stanford also played for Team USA six times and had a 2-0-1 mark in the 2007 Solheim Cup. But she also had three Cups (2005, 2011, 2013) in which she failed to win a match, going a collective 0-9-1 in those years. And Trish Johnson, for Team Europe, had a respectable (though slightly negative) record in the doubles formats, but was an abysmal 1-7-0 in singles matches. Johnson holds the record for most singles losses in Solheim Cup matches.
