Which Golfers Have Won the Most Matches in the Solheim Cup?

In the history of the Solheim Cup, which golfer has won the most matches? Two golfers share the record, and those two are both from Team Europe.

Annika Sorenstam and Laura Davies each won 22 matches in their Solheim Cup careers. Four other golfers also appear on the list below of the golfers with the most overall wins in the competition. (The Solheim Cup, played every other year, pits Team United States against Team Europe, each team made up of that region's best women professional golfers.)

In the Solheim Cup, the golfers play fourball, foursomes and singles match play. Add up a golfer's wins in each of those formats, and you get their overall total of matches won. Not surprisingly, those golfers with the most match wins are big names — golfers who were named to many Solheim Cup teams each, thereby getting many opportunities to play (and win) matches.

The List: Most Overall Wins in Solheim Cup Matches

Annika Sorenstam, 22 wins

Sorenstam played in eight Solheim Cups for Europe, first in 1994 and last in 2007. In those eight appearances, she played 37 matches total, compiling a 22-11-4 record. That's a winning percentage of 70.2-percent. Sorenstam's best Cups were 4-1-0 marks in both 2003 and 2005, and a 3-0-2 showing in 1996. Broken down by format, she went 7-5-2 in fourballs, 11-3-1 in foursomes and 4-3-1 in singles.

Laura Davies, 22 wins

Davies matches Sorenstam's 22 wins, but Davies needed more Cups and more matches to reach that number. She played in 12 Solheim Cups for Europe, spanning 1990 through 2011, and went 3-0-0 in 1992, 3-1-1 in 1998. Her overall record is 22-18-6 in 46 matches played. She was 9-7-3 in fourball, 8-6-1 in foursomes and 5-5-2 in singles.

Catriona Matthew, 18 wins

Matthew, of Team Europe, tops three golfers with 18 wins each with an overall record of 18-11-8. She played in nine Cups (first in 1998, last in 2017) and in 37 matches. She went 3-1-0 in 2007, and also in her final two appearances (2015, 2017). Matthew was 4-4-3 in fourball, 8-5-4 in foursomes and 6-2-1 in singles.

Suzann Pettersen, 18 wins

Pettersen compiled an 18-12-6 record in 36 matches played over nine Solheims. Her first was in 2002 and last in 2019, where she sank the winning putt for Team Europe. Her best showings were 4-1-0 in 2003 and 3-1-0 in 2011. Pettersen was 9-3-1 in fourball, 7-5-2 in foursomes and 2-4-3 in singles.

Cristie Kerr, 18 wins

Kerr's overall Solheim Cup record for Team USA was 18-14-6 in 38 matches. She played in nine Cups, first in 2002 and last in 2017. Her best record in any of her appearances was 3-0-1, which she recorded in her final two showings (2015, 2017). Kerr went 11-5-1 in fourball, 4-5-3 in foursomes and 3-4-2 in singles.

Paula Creamer, 17 wins

Creamer, of Team USA, had a stellar record of 17-9-5 (in winning percentage, second only to Sorenstam on this list) in 31 matches over seven Solheim Cup appearances (first in 2005, last in 2017). She was 3-1-0 in her last appearance, and went 3-1-1 in both 2005 and 2011. Creamer had a 5-3-2 record in fourball, 7-4-3 in foursomes and 5-2-0 in singles.
