European Tour 72-Hole Scoring Records (Total Strokes and Under Par)

Ernie Els has some of the European Tour's lowest 72-hole scores

Which golfers have gone the lowest on the European Tour? Below we see the European Tour records for lowest 72-hole stroke total and for most strokes under par over 72 holes.

The record-low stroke total is 257, and the Euro Tour's 72-hole record for strokes under par is 29-under.

A couple golfers overlap between the two lists. But only one golfer appears twice on one of the lists: Ian Woosnam. Woosnam has two of the lowest 72-hole stroke totals in European Tour history, and for many years shared the all-time record.

72-Hole Scoring Record, Total Strokes

These are the golfers' 72-hole stroke totals. All of these golfers won the tournaments, as one would expect.

  • 258 — Ian Woosnam, 1990 Torras Monte Carlo Open (-18)
  • 258 — David Llewellyn, 1988 AGF Biarritz Open (-14)
  • 259 — Ernie Els, 2003 Johnnie Walker Classic (-29)
  • 259 — Mark McNulty, 1987 German Open (-25)
  • 259 — Tiger Woods, 2000 WGC NEC Invitational (-21)
  • 260 — Richard Sterne, 2013 Joburg Open (-27)
  • 260 — Colin Montgomerie, 1996 Canon European Masters (-24)

  • 260 — Robert Karlsson, 2006 Celtic Manor Wales Open (-16)

72-Hole Scoring Record, Strokes Under Par

These are the golfers' finishing strokes-under-par (often called strokes in relation to par) numbers.
  • 30-under — Jordan Smith, 2022 Portugal Masters (254)
  • 29-under — Ernie Els 2003 Johnnie Walker Classic (259)
  • 27-under — Andy Sullivan, 2020 English Championship (257)
  • 27-under — Richard Sterne, 2013 Joburg Open (260)
  • 27-under — Jerry Anderson, 1984 Ebel European Masters Swiss Open (261)
  • 27-under — Louis Oosthuizen, 2012 Africa Open (265)

Note that at the 2022 Portugal Masters, Jordan Smith won with a 30-under-par total of 254. But because preferred lies (lift, clean and place) were in effect during the tournament, the European Tour does not count Smith's totals as tour records.
