Golfers Who Won U.S. Senior Open, Senior British Open in Same Year

How many golfers have pulled off the feat of winning both the U.S. Senior Open and the Senior British Open in the same year? So far that count stands at just three.

The U.S. Senior Open was first played in 1980, and the Senior British Open was first played in 1987. So only since 1987 has it been possible to pull off this impressive senior double. And it only took one year, until 1988, for the first golfer to do it. But it wasn't until 2025 that the third golfer joined the list below.

Same-Year Winners of U.S. and British Senior Opens

• Gary Player, 1988: Player also won the U.S. Senior Open in 1987, and the Senior British Open in 1990 and 1997. But in 1988 he became the first golfer to win them both at any point, and also the first to win them both in the same year. In the 1988 Senior Open Championship, Player beat runner-up Billy Casper by one stroke. Then, about a month later at the U.S. Senior Open he ran away to a 6-stroke victory over runner-up Bob Charles.

• Bernhard Langer, 2010: It took 22 years before anyone joined Player as a same-year winner of the U.S. and British senior opens. In the 2010 Senior Open Championship, he beat Corey Pavin by one. Then, in the U.S. Senior Open, Langer won by three strokes over second-place Fred Couples. Langer also won the U.S. Senior Open in 2023 and the Senior British in 2014, 2017 and 2019.

• Padraig Harrington, 2025: The third golfer to pull off this particular senior major-double joined the list in 2025. Harrington first won the U.S. Senior Open by one stroke over runner-up Stewart Cink. The, at the 2025 Senior British, he claimed a three-stroke victory over Thomas Bjorn and Justin Leonard. Harrington had earlier won the U.S. Senior Open in 2022.
