2027 British Open Dates, Golf Course

The 2027 British Open will be the 155th edition of this major championship of men's professional golf. Officially named The Open Championship, this tournament dates to 1860. It is run by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews (the R&A).

2027 British Open dates: July 15-18, 2027
Golf course: The Old Course at St. Andrews in St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland
Tickets: Attending the British Open with a standard ticket requires entering a ticket lottery. The lottery usually opens for registration during the previous year's Open (e.g., the ticket lottery for the 2027 Open will begin accepting entries during the 2026 Open). Those willing to spend more can investigate hospitality and "enhanced experience" options to directly secure tickets. See the Tickets section of theopen.com, where information will be posted about 2027 likely while the 2026 Open is in progress.

Players get into the field through a combination of automatic qualifying criteria, along with qualifying tournaments played around the world. Information on qualification methods is available here.

Groupings and tee times for the first two rounds of the 2027 British Open will be announced by the R&A on the Tuesday preceding the first round of play.

2027 Open Links: The Old Course at St. Andrews

The Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland, is one of the oldest continuously played golf courses in the world. And the British Open has been played there more than at any other golf course — the 2027 Open will be the 31st time.

The Open was first played at St. Andrews in 1873, with Tom Kidd writing his name in history as the first winner at The Old Course (so long ago that The Old Course wasn't yet known by that name). The Open returns to St. Andrews every five years or so today.

We won't list all 30 of the previous winners at St. Andrews, but these are the most-recent champions on that list:

2022: Cameron Smith, 268
2015: Zach Johnson, 273 (defeated Louis Oosthuizen and Marc Leishman in playoff)
2010: Louis Oosthuizen, 272
2005: Tiger Woods, 274
2000: Tiger Woods, 269
1995: John Daly, 282 (defeated Costantino Rocca in playoff)
1990: Nick Faldo, 270
1984: Seve Ballesteros, 276
1978: Jack Nicklaus, 281
1970: Jack Nicklaus, 283 (defeated Doug Sanders in playoff)

In addition to Woods and Nicklaus, the other two-time Open Championship winners at St. Andrews are Bob Martin (1876, 1885), J.H. Taylor (1895, 1900), and James Braid (1905, 1910).

The Old Course has also been the site of the Senior Open Championship (won by Miguel Angel Jimenez in 2018), and multiple Women's British Opens (most-recently won by Lydia Ko in 2024).
