Players and Qualifying

Many golfers will get into the field by meeting one of the tournament's exemption categories. These criteria include things such as being a past champion or recent winner of another senior major, money leaders and points leaders from the Champions Tour, and winners of select USGA amateur championships if age-eligible.

Golfers who do not meet any of the exemption categories can attempt to play their way into the U.S. Senior Open through local qualifiers and/or final qualifiers, 18-hole and 36-hole, respectively, qualifying tournaments played around the United States leading up to the Senior Open.

2027 U.S. Senior Open Golf Course: Oak Tree

Oak Tree National in Edmond, Oklahoma, is notorious as one of the most difficult golf courses in America based on its USGA course and slope ratings. It has the maximum 155 slope rating, and while it does not have the highest USGA course rating, it is way up there at 79.5.

The course's tips for everyday play are 7,410 yards long, and the par 71. There is water in play on 13 of 18 holes, and strong winds are common across the landscape. The Pete Dye-designed golf course opened in 1976.

The 2027 U.S. Senior Open will be the second U.S. Senior Open and third senior major played at Oak Tree National. It has also been the site of one regular major, the PGA Championship. These are the biggest tournaments played at Oak Tree and the winners:

  • 1984 U.S. Amateur: Scott Verplank
  • 1988 PGA Championship: Jeff Sluman, 272
  • 2006 Senior PGA Championship: Jay Haas, 279
  • 2014 U.S. Senior Open: Colin Montgomerie, 279
