Wire-to-Wire Winners of the U.S. Senior Open
How many golfers have won the U.S. Senior Open by leading, or at least sharing the lead, after all four rounds? Such start-to-finish wins, called winning wire-to-wire, are not very common in this major championship of men's senior golf. Only two golfers have won the U.S. Senior Open by holding the outright, solo lead after each round.

Wire-to-Wire Winners, No Ties
These are the two golfers so far (the tournament dates to 1980) who won the U.S. Senior Open by holding the solo lead following each round:- Dale Douglass, 1986 U.S. Senior Open: Douglass' 66 in the first round was good for a three-stroke lead. He maintained that edge with a 72 in Round 2 to stand on 138. In the third round, Douglass increased his lead to four with a 68. And with a final-round 73, Douglass finished at 279 and with a one-stroke win over runner-up Gary Player.
- Olin Browne, 2011 U.S. Senior Open: Browne opened with a 64 to take a two-stroke lead after Round 1. His lead was one stroke following the second round and two after the third. In the final round, Browne scored 71 to finish at 269 and win by three over second-place Mark O'Meara.
Like Douglass, Browne had three career wins on the PGA Tour. His U.S. Senior Open victory was his first on the senior circuit, and he won only once more on the Champions Tour.
Wire-to-Wire Winners, Including Ties
If we expand the criteria to include golfers who held or shared the lead following each round of a U.S. Senior Open, three more golfers make the list:- Simon Hobday, 1994 U.S. Senior Open: Shared first-round lead, led outright after second and third rounds, won by one.
- Steve Stricker, 2019 U.S. Senior Open: Stricker tied the 18-hole tournament record with a first-round 62 ... but so did David Toms, to share the lead. Stricker took the solo lead after the second round and held it to the end, winning by six. His 261 total was a new 72-hole, U.S. Senior Open scoring record.
- Padraig Harrington, 2025 U.S. Senior Open: Harrington was in the lead after the first, second and third rounds, but one or more golfers tied him after each round. In the final round, he scored 67 to win by one shot.
