The 1985 Walker Cup was the 30th time this competition took place. Following the United States victory, the all-time standings were 27 wins for Team USA, two wins for Team GB&I, one tie.

Notes: A great foursomes session on Day 2 helped Team USA earn the close victory. The teams were deadlocked, 6-6, at the end of Day 1. But in the Day 2 foursomes, the American side won three matches and halved the other, earning 3.5 of the possible four points and taking a three-point lead.

And they needed that cushion because GB&I won the final singles session by a point. But in the end, that resulted in the two-point victory for Team USA. Scott Verplank went 3-0-1, earning 3.5 points to lead the U.S. side.

For the second consecutive Cup, Jay Sigel was playing-captain for Team USA. This is the most-recent Walker Cup in which a team captain also played in the matches.
