2021 Walker Cup: Dates, Course, Format

The 2021 Walker Cup will be the 48th time this biennial amateur team competition takes place. The tournament is for top amateur male golfers, Team Great Britain & Ireland vs. Team United States.

Dates Played: May 8-9, 2021

Golf Course: Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Florida

Team USA won the 2019 Walker Cup by a 15.5 to 10.5 score. As the defending champion, the American side must earn 13 points in the 2021 Walker Cup to hold it; Team GB&I must earn 13.5 points to win it back.

Team USA leads the overall standings with 37 wins to nine wins for Team GB&I, plus one tie.

Team Composition

Both sides are comprised of 10 golfers. The USGA's International Team Selection Committee selects players for the American side. The R&A Men’s Selection Committee chooses golfers for Team GB&I.

2021 Walker Cup Format and Schedule

The Walker Cup is a match play tournament. The formats in use are foursomes (also called alternate shot), a 2-man team format; and singles match play, which is one vs. one.

There are 26 matches total played. Eight of those are foursomes, which take place in the morning sessions, four per day. Eighteen of the matches are singles, eight on Day 1 and 10 on Day 2, played in the afternoon sessions.

This is the daily schedule for the three-day competition:

  • Friday, Sept. 6: Opening Ceremony
  • Saturday, Sept. 7: Four morning foursomes matches followed by eight singles matches
  • Sunday, Sept. 8: Four morning foursomes matches followed by 10 singles matches, plus Closing Ceremony
