1975 Walker Cup Winner and Match Scores

The 1975 Walker Cup was the 25th time this competition took place. Following the United States victory, the all-time standings were 22 wins for Team USA, two wins for Team GB&I, one tie.

Final Score: United States 15.5, Great Britain & Ireland 8.5

Dates Played: May 28-29, 1975

Location: The Old Course at St. Andrews

Team Captains: Ed Updegraff for the United States, David Marsh for Great Britain & Ireland

Team Results:

  • USA — George Burns III, William C. Campbell, Vinny Giles, John Grace, Jay Haas, Gary Koch, Jerry Pate, Dick Siderowf, Craig Stadler, Curtis Strange
  • GB&I — John Davies, Richard Eyles, Charlie Green, Peter Hedges, Ian Hutcheon, Mark James, George MacGregor, Paddy Mulcare, Martin Poxon, Hugh Stuart
Notes: After Team GB&I won the opening foursomes match, Team USA swept the next three, and ended Day 1 leading by four points. The teams split the Day 2 foursomes. Then Ian Hutcheon beat Jerry Pate in the first Day 2 singles match, cutting the Americans' lead to three points. That was as close as GB&I got, however.

William C. Campbell made his final playing appearance for Team USA, 24 years after his debut in the 1951 Walker Cup. That 24-year gap between first and last Walker Cups is the tournament record. At the time this event ended, Campbell held the Walker Cup records for most match wins (11) and points earned (16.5); he was later surpassed by Jay Sigel in both categories.
