1934 Walker Cup Winner and Match Scores

The 1934 Walker Cup was the eighth time this competition was played. Following Team USA's win, the all-time standings were eight wins for the United States, zero wins for Team GB&I.

Final Score: United States 9, Great Britain & Ireland 2

Dates Played: May 11-12, 1934

Location: The Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland

Team Captains: Francis Ouimet for the United States, Michael Scott for Great Britain & Ireland

Team Rosters:

Notes: Francis Ouimet captained Team USA for the second of six times here, but he played for USA for the last of eight times. Ouimet played in every Walker Cup from the first one in 1922 through this one. His eight playing appearances remained the USA record until Jay Sigel broke it in 1993.

And Ouimet went out a winner, beating Donald Crawley 5-and-4 in his singles match. That gave him a total of 11.5 points earned, the Walker Cup record (since broken) at the time.

The only highlight for Team GB&I was Tony Torrance's singles victory. It was the third of three Walker Cups in which Torrance was the sole GB&I winner in singles.

The playing captain for GB&I, Michael Scott, was the 1933 British Amateur winner. (American Lawson Little won the 1934 British Am.) Scott, aged 55 years, eight months and 11 days, still holds the Walker Cup record as the oldest player.
