1942 PGA Championship Winner and Scores

The 1942 PGA Championship was the 25th time this major was played and one of golf's legends earned his first major championship win.

Winner: Sam Snead

Where it was played: Seaview Country Club in Galloway Township, New Jersey

Tournament dates: May 25-31, 1942

Notable notes: Sam Snead won the championship match by a 2-and-1 score over Jim Turnesa. ... Turnesa had advanced to the finals by knocking off Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson in succession, but taking down the third member of this era's "Big 3" proved too much. (Turnesa went on to win the 1952 PGA Championship.) ... It was the first of Snead's seven career wins in majors, and his 28th career PGA Tour win. ... To make the final match, Snead beat Sam Byrd, Willie Goggin, Ed Dudley and Jimmy Demaret. ... Walter Hagen, 5-time PGA championship, made his final appearance in this tournament and failed to advance out of the stroke play qualifier.
