1863 British Open Winner and Scores
Willie Park Sr. won the 1863 British Open, the fourth one played. Park thus split the first four Opens with Tom Morris Sr., two wins each.
Winner: Willie Park. Sr., 168
Where it was played: Prestwick Golf Club, Ayrshire, Scotland
Tournament dates: Sept. 18, 1863
Leader after first round: David Park, 55
Leader after second round: Willie Park Sr., 110
Notable Notes: Old Tom Morris was attempting to win the Open for a third consecutive time. Had he done so, he would have won permanent possession of the Championship Belt. But since he didn't, the Championship Belt remained in rotation.
It was Willie Park Sr.'s second victory. The sons of Park and Morris would soon be continuing the family's golf rivalry with victories of their own.
Fourteen golfers entered, playing 12-hole rounds on the Prestwick links.
