The 1956 PGA Championship was the 38th time this major was played.

Winner: Jack Burke Jr.

Where it was played: Blue Hill Golf and Country Club in Massachusetts

Tournament dates: July 20-25, 1956

Notable notes: It was the second major win of the year for Jack Burke Jr., who earlier won The Masters. Here, he defeated Ted Kroll in the final match by a 3-and-2 score over 36 holes. ... It was only the second time a golfer won both The Masters and PGA Championship in the same year. (The first to do so was Sam Snead in 1949.) ... Burke went into semi-retirement following this victory with 16 total PGA Tour wins. ... Kroll, who finished his career with eight tour wins, led 1-up after 19 holes. But Burke then won five of the next seven holes to take control.
